Permanent Holiday Lighting in Barrie

Permanent lighting is the answer for Barrie owners who are tired of the November ladder. It goes up once, nearly disappears against the soffit by day, and does Christmas, Halloween, Canada Day and everyday accent lighting from the same app.

Permanent lighting is a row of individually addressable LED pixels set in a low-profile aluminum channel, fixed to the underside of the soffit or the face of the fascia just below the eavestrough. The channel is colour-matched to the trim, so from the street in daylight it reads as part of the house. At night it lights the roofline from below in any colour, pattern or brightness you choose, from a phone app, a schedule or a voice assistant.

Why it suits Barrie houses

  • Long straight soffits. The two-storey subdivision houses of Ardagh, Holly, Painswick, Innishore and the south end were built with uninterrupted eaves and a street-facing garage gable, which is the easiest and tidiest permanent install there is.
  • No more ladders in the snow. Barrie averages about 23 cm of snow in November and 51 cm in December. A system that is already up does not care.
  • Use all year. Warm white accent lighting most nights, red and green for December, orange in October, red and white for Canada Day, team colours on game nights, a birthday colour.
  • New builds. In the Salem and Hewitt's plan areas, owners often fit it while the house is new and the landscaping is not yet in.

How it is installed

The run is measured and the controller location chosen, usually inside the garage near an existing outlet. The channel is fixed to the soffit or fascia with corrosion-resistant screws into solid backing, and the cable is routed into the garage or along the eave to the controller. The installer works with the outlets you have and does not alter household wiring. If a dedicated outlet is needed, that is a licensed electrical contractor's job and the quote says so. A typical Barrie two-storey front is a single day.

What to ask before you buy

  • Certification. The controller and power supply should carry a Canadian certification mark such as CSA, cUL or cETL, as Health Canada advises for any lighting product.
  • Warm white quality. Cheap pixels make a pinkish or bluish white. Ask to see the warm white at night, because that is the colour you will use most.
  • Snow and ice. On the soffit, under the eave, the lights sit out of the snow slide and the ice dam. On the fascia face they need to sit below the eavestrough, not on top of it.
  • Warranty and parts. Who replaces a failed pixel or controller, and how quickly.

Running cost

Warm white at moderate brightness draws little power. Under the Ontario Energy Board's prices from 1 November 2026 the evening hours on Time-of-Use are mostly off-peak at 9.1 Â¢/kWh after 7 p.m.; on the Ultra-Low Overnight plan, weekday evenings between 4 and 9 p.m. are on-peak at 37.7 Â¢, so a schedule that starts at dusk and is modest in brightness makes sense. The cost page has a worked example.

Permanent or seasonal?

Permanent lighting is the right call for owners who will use it beyond December and who plan to stay in the house a few years. It is less suited to a house with wood soffit in poor repair, a roofline that is mostly short peaks and dormers, or an owner who only wants lights for three weeks a year and likes the look of big C9 bulbs on the roof edge, which a soffit channel does not imitate. Many Barrie owners do both: permanent lighting on the main eave and garage, seasonal lights on the trees and porch.

Frequently asked questions

Can you see permanent lights in the daytime?

Barely. The channel is narrow, sits under the soffit or tight to the fascia, and is colour-matched to your trim. Most people walking past in daylight do not notice it.

Will it survive a Barrie winter?

Mounted under the soffit it is out of the snow slide and the ice at the eave, which is the main reason for putting it there. Ask any installer for the rated temperature range and the warranty in writing.

Can permanent lighting go on an older house?

Usually, though a house with short eaves, many peaks and wood soffit takes more planning and more channel than a subdivision two-storey. The quote after a look will say how it would lay out.
