Commercial Holiday Lighting in Barrie

A lit storefront or entrance is part of how a Barrie business tells people it is open for the season. Downtown it also sits alongside the City's own lights at Meridian Place and Centennial Park.

Commercial holiday lighting covers the buildings that are not houses: the storefronts along Dunlop Street downtown, the plazas on Bayfield Street and Essa Road, the condominium towers along the waterfront, office buildings, churches and clinics. The method is the same as a house; the planning, insurance and scheduling are not.

What is installed

  • Storefront and canopy lighting. Rooflines, parapets, window outlines and canopies.
  • Entrances. Lit garland and wreaths at doors, pillars and planters.
  • Trees and grounds. Wrapped trees in landscaped islands and at the entrance of a plaza or condo building.
  • Permanent lighting. A year-round LED channel along a façade or canopy, used for Christmas, other holidays and brand colours.

Working on commercial property

  • Outside business hours. Installs and takedowns are scheduled early, late or on the quiet day so customers and tenants are not walking under a ladder.
  • Certificates of insurance. Property managers and condo boards usually require one, naming the corporation, before work starts. Ask for it with the quote.
  • Heights and lifts. Anything above a ladder's safe reach is done from a lift, under Ontario's fall protection rules for work where a fall of more than three metres is possible.
  • Power. Commercial installs use existing exterior receptacles on GFCI protection. New circuits or receptacles are for a licensed electrical contractor.

Condo corporations

In a condominium, the exterior of the building, balconies and the grounds are usually governed by the declaration and rules, and individual owners may need board approval before decorating. Boards that want a consistent lit entrance and lobby rather than a patchwork of balconies often contract it centrally. The installer works to the board's rules and the property manager's schedule.

Timing

Commercial clients usually want lights on for the downtown Santa Claus Parade and tree lighting in mid-November and off in early January. Bookings are made in September and October to secure installation dates.

Frequently asked questions

Can you install outside business hours?

Yes. Early morning, evening or the day you are closed, so the work does not get in the way of customers or tenants.

Do you provide a certificate of insurance?

Yes, on request with the quote, naming the property owner, manager or condo corporation as needed.

Can we use our brand colours outside Christmas?

With permanent lighting, yes: the colours are set from the app for any date, and the same system does Christmas in December.
